From Routine to Adventure – our family’s journey to Full Time Travel.

Life doesn’t always go as planned…

In fact, if you’d told me a few years ago that we’d be living a life of full-time travel, exploring Australia with our four kids, I probably would have laughed!

Back then, we were just trying to keep our heads above water. Stuck in a cycle of stress, survival, and routine.

But sometimes, life has a way of forcing you to stop and rethink everything.

For us, that turning point came after years of challenges, struggles, and one life-changing lightbulb moment that finally made us ask: What do we really want from life?

Here’s how we went from spiraling in stress to embracing a life of adventure—and why it’s been the most rewarding decision we’ve ever made.

When Everything Felt Too Hard

When our daughter Maddie was born, we faced one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives. She was given a grim prognosis, and our world was turned upside down.

We went from the joy of welcoming a baby, to the terror of the unknown! Those early months were filled with endless medical appointments, sleepless nights, and a constant weight of fear and uncertainty.

The trauma of that time stayed with us for years. And just when we thought we might be able to catch our breath, life threw us another curveball.

We bought a house and decided to renovate it, on our own, with barely any money to spare.

I was pregnant with Ari at the time, and by the time he was born, the house was still barely finished. We were exhausted, miserable, and overwhelmed.

On top of it all, we’d faced our own struggles with fertility over the years. Each of our four children came into the world after a long journey filled with hope and heartache. They were our miracles, but the stress of getting through those years left us running on empty.

The Lightbulb Moment - Choosing Adventure Over Routine

When our youngest, Micah, was just one month old, something shifted…

For the first time in what felt like forever, we didn’t have to worry about newborns, renovations, or planning for another baby.

For the first time, we could finally breathe and look toward the future.

I remember sitting quietly one night after the kids had gone to bed, and it hit me like a ton of bricks: It had been such a struggle to bring these four incredible little humans into the world. How could we spend our days just surviving, instead of truly enjoying them?

That thought stayed with me. Life had thrown us so many challenges, but it had also given us the most amazing gifts—our kids. I didn’t want to wait for “someday” to make memories with them. I wanted to enjoy them now.

It was then that we started dreaming about what our lives could look like if we made a change.

The idea of traveling full-time wasn’t something we came to overnight. It felt huge, scary, and a little bit crazy. After all, we had four kids, a stable life, and a routine that—while exhausting—was predictable. Could we really walk away from all of that?

The doubts were loud:

  • The kids are in a great school. Won’t pulling them out be unfair to them?

  • What about Brad’s full-time job? How will we make money?

  • What if it’s too hard, too expensive, too overwhelming?

But the more we thought about it, the more it felt like the right decision.

We didn’t want to keep spinning our wheels in a life that left us feeling unfulfilled. We wanted to show our kids the world, to have the time to truly connect with them, and to make memories that would last a lifetime.

And so, we made the leap. We rented out the house, borrowed a caravan, and set off to explore Australia with our four kids in tow.

It wasn’t easy, packing up our lives and leaving behind the safety of routine. In truth, it was terrifying!

But we were ready to embrace the unknown.

How Travel Changed Everything!!!

Since we started this journey, our lives have transformed in ways we never imagined.

We’re More Connected as a Family
The constant rush of daily life—school runs, work deadlines, endless to-do lists—has been replaced with slow mornings, shared adventures, and moments of connection. We’ve had time to truly see each other, to talk, to laugh, and to grow closer as a family.

The Kids Are Thriving
We worried about pulling the kids out of school, but we’ve discovered that the world is the ultimate classroom. They’ve learned about Australia’s history by walking through heaps of museums across Australia, explored science while snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, and developed resilience and adaptability through living on the road.

Work Is More Meaningful
Brad left his 9-to-5 job to pursue remote work that aligns with our values and passions, and I’ve found ways to contribute while prioritizing our family’s lifestyle. It hasn’t always been easy, but the work we do now feels fulfilling and purposeful.

We’re Truly Living
Perhaps the biggest change has been in our mindset. We’re no longer waiting for the weekends or school holidays to make memories—we’re making them every single day.

You Don’t Have to Go Full-Time to Find Freedom

I know what you’re probably thinking: “That’s great for you, but I could never do that.” And that’s okay. Full-time travel isn’t for everyone, and it’s not the only way to break free from routine and create meaningful moments with your family.

Even small adventures—like a weekend camping trip, a road trip during school holidays, or a day exploring somewhere new—can bring a sense of adventure and connection to your family.

What I’ve learned is that it’s not about how far you go or how long you travel. It’s about being intentional with your time, stepping outside your comfort zone, and creating space to truly enjoy the people you love most.

Our Biggest Lesson

The biggest lesson we’ve learned from this journey is this…

life is short, and it’s meant to be lived!

After years of challenges, stress, and survival, we’ve finally found a life that feels full, joyful, and deeply meaningful.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in the monotony of routine or wondered if there’s more out there for your family, I encourage you to take your first step towards living out your dream life —no matter how small.

Whether it’s planning a weekend away or rethinking how you spend your time, you have the power to create a life that feels fulfilling for you and your family.

The best memories aren’t made by waiting for the “perfect time.” They’re made by taking the leap, no matter how imperfect it feels.
